Cigars - La Flor Dominicana Ligero
![]() |
La Flor Dominicana boasts a number of world-class cigars, their reputations reflecting very well on their creator, Litto Gomez. Gomez launched this brand in the 1990s and watched as it skyrocketed to popularity among devoted connoisseurs. He didn’t settle for a middle-of-the-road smoke. What he created as among the strongest cigars likely to enter the experience of the average aficionado. |
La Flor Dominicana Cigars |
The La Flor Dominicana Ligero series is most definitely full-bodied. You’ll not soon forget having smoked one of these. While there are three cigars in this line, each has its own distinct personality due to wrappers unique to each variety. |
The original of the series is the Papa Ligero, an Ecuadorian leaf wrapped around strong Dominican-grown ligero. Ligero leaves are those that grow at the very top of the tobacco plant and they receive the most sunlight. A cigar made of this leaf will make even the most experienced connoisseur blink and stutter for a moment.
Riding on the success of the Papa Ligero, Gomez went on to create both the Cabinet and the Double Ligero. The Cabinet employs the same powerful ligero leaves for its filler and binder but has a dusky natural Oscuro wrapper. As a result, the Cabinet is still a cigar to be reckoned with but it is a bit more subtle about its power.
And then there is the Double Ligero. Nothing matches it. Consider a cigar with ligero Dominican filler, a ligero
Dominican binder, and a dark sun-grown Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper. “Potent” is the word that comes to mind, but the Double Ligero is amazingly smooth, much like a Ferrari running through the gears on the race course.
Given the strength of this group of siblings, it is difficult to pinpoint just what would make a suitable companion quaff. A bit of experimentation should result in a winning combination.
